Rabbi Appel did undergraduate work at the Joint Program of the Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia University, graduate work at Touro College, and received his Rabbinic ordination from the Israel Torah Research Institute (I.T.R.I) in Jerusalem. A former Director of Aish HaTorah's International Discovery program, he has lectured on Jewish topics across 5 continents. His commentary on the weekly Torah portion on the Aish.com web site has over 8,000 subscribers. Nowadays, when he is not working or participating in Jewish studies, he spends his time driving car pools and dieting. His wife, Channa, is the Director of NCSY in Cleveland and together they have eight children.
